Dunga community eco-crafts
The prevalent water hyacinth on Lake Victoria poses risks such as reduction of oxygen level for fish and becoming an ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes. As a byproduct, many youths around Lake Victoria have become jobless as they depended on fishing as their source of income. John Steve Okumu, founder of Dunga Eco, saw the potential opportunity in the use of this water hyacinth. John Steve uses the water hyacinth from the lake to make furniture products, jewellery, papers and home decor.
